KARACHI: Defence of Human Rights (DHR) chairperson Amina Masood Janjua has questioned rulers’ ‘silence’ over Dr Aafia issue, saying that people of Pakistan have been demanding her release but the government is not playing its constitutional responsibilities in this regard. She was addressing the participants of ‘Aafia Qafila Ghairat Paidal March’ on Tuesday at Pir Wadhai, Rawalpindi. Participants of the march arrived here from Lakki Marwat by covering a distance of 400km on foot. She congratulated the participants, saying they took trouble to cover a long distance of 400km just to divert the rulers’ attention to the issue. She regretted for what she said that rulers were not taking due interest in the matter. She urged the government to feel its responsibilities towards the issue of Aafia’s repatriation. Farah Agha of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Rawalpindi chapter, Nazima Zeba Khaild of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Rawalpindi chapter, Defence of Human Rights Rawalpindi President Waqas Zahid, rights activist and workers of political and social organisations were also present. “The key to repatriation of Dr Aafia is in the hands of the Pakistani rulers,” she said, adding that participants of the march tried their best to arouse the pride and self-honour of the Pakistani rulers. Speaking on the occasion, the JI leader said Dr Aafia should be immediately brought home.
