LARKANA: Science Laboratories are available in only 1200 out of 46000 schools in Sindh whereas in Larkana district, only 30 schools out of 1196 have science laboratories, but even then no experiments are carried out there. This was revealed by Regional Coordinator, Alif Ailaan, Junaid Dahar, here on Tuesday, while briefing media about the importance of science and mathematics in education.
He said in 21st century, the children of Sindh have been deprived of scientific education and Sindh government was also not seemed to be serious in this connection to raise the standard. He said that Sindh’s children are behind all children of all provinces of Pakistan in science & maths subjects.
According to IBA test, kids of the province were able to obtain 22 marks in maths and 23 in science subjects which is alarming and have also exposed the claims of education emergency imposed in Sindh. He said that 55% students of class VIII of Larkana cannot read a single sentence in Urdu and 70% students of classes II & V cannot even read a single sentence in English, which shows lower standard of education here.
Dahar urged the Sindh government to provide competent science & mathematics teachers to every school of the province, adding the curriculum must also be revised on emergency basis to meet the requirements of modern scientific needs which will be beneficial to the future leaders. Dahar further said that these teachers must also be provided latest trainings in their related fields, adding science budget must also be 100% enhanced with provision of modern laboratory equipment & instruments to make all the labs functional. It is also reliably learnt that annual School Specific Budget allocation of Rs 4 billion is not being used since last six years in Sindh which means Rs 24 billion have been lapsed so far without any benefit to the end users which need to be probed as to why this huge amount remained unutilized.
