Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sherry Rehman was on Thursday elected as the Leader of the Opposition for Senate after accumulating a total of 34 votes, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Azam Swati secured 19 votes on the day.
With her triumph in the elections, Rehman became the first female to become the Senate opposition leader.
Rehman has served as the federal minister for information and broadcasting, while she also served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US (2011-13) and was elected to the Senate in 2015.
