Women empowerment

Sir: Just to highlight for my readers that TED stands for ‘Technology, Entertainment, and Design’ and is a conference series that was started by Richard Saul Wurman in 1984.
In 2001, TED was acquired by Chris Anderson, who oversees all TED conferences today and acts as the curator for the thousands of talks that can be viewed at TED.com

Internationally every year various TED talks are organized but from Pakistan, few people are invited for expressing their thoughts and success stories. This year as a Pakistani I am feeling proud that Ghulam Sughra resident of interior Sindh and who is the winner of Women of Courage Award which she took from ex-secretary of state Hilary Clinton and ex-first lady Mitchel Obama are participating in TED talk which is organized by Cambridge School of Bucharest. The primary goal of this show is to showcase the wonderful ideas that how an ordinary woman of Pakistan struggled for her rights and then marked an example for other women of Pakistan.

She would be speaking about the women empowerment, education and human rights focusing Pakistan and especially Sindh. She will be also discussing and sharing her experiences about the harsh realities of honour killings and forced conversation in interior Sindh.
Ghulam Sughra comes from the interior part of Sindh where the women are not free and are considered second-class citizens and are controlled by the feudal mindset. Within this region, male dominance is enriched in the roots and women are living in the name of rigid customs, traditions and so-called cultural norms.

On talking with the authorities of Cambridge School of Bucharest Amer Rafi, said they want local Romanian people to be familiar with Pakistani heroes, their ideas, innovations and journey toward success. They want to inspire the youth to act, to take charge of their future, and alongside, also develop a spirit of belonging and pride for their country.
This step will also create a soft image of Pakistan regarding women rights and will create role models.
