DIR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that most of destroyed schools during militancy in Upper Dir had been re constructed in the district.

According to a data received from the PDMA office in Peshawar a total 20 schools were targeted in Upper Dir district when militants swayed the region from 2008 to 2011.

The schools which were torched or bombed in the district included Bibyawar middle school for girls, girls high school Wari, girls high school Ganori, girls primary school, GPS Nirgah, GPS Cheragali, GPS Chapar, GPS Kunal, GHS janBati, GPS Tangisar and others.

The data showed that five schools were reconstructed in the district by the Provincial reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Settlement Authority (PaRRSA).

The data stated that the reconstruction work on the militancy-hit schools in Malakand division was started with the financial support of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in 2009.

Taimur Ali, media coordinator of PDMA-PaRRSA told this correspondent on Tuesday that around 182 schools were targeted in Malakand division by extremists from 2008 to 2011 in which 179 schools have been reconstructed while work is under progress on the remaining schools.

He said that 108 schools were completed under the USAID, 47 were completed with the UAE assistance, 12 schools were completed by the Chief Minister special fund while 12 others were rebuilt by various non-developmental organizations in the militancy hit district of Malakand Division.

Taimur said that construction work was underway on remaining 15 schools in Upper Dir and 45 schools in the other districts of the region under the USAID financial aid.

He said that several roads and health units were also reconstructed in Malakand division which was affected due to militancy and the 2010 flood.

The officials in education department in Dir told that after the reconstruction of these affected schools the enrollment were increase as many children were got admissions in schools.

When the administration official was contacted on the issue he said that under the border management scheme, passport had been made compulsory to produce at exit and entry of Torkham border for all persons including Pakistani nationals.
