Interior ministry ready to provide Musharraf security upon return

KARACHI: The Interior ministry has on Monday accepted former president Gen. (retd) Pervaiz Musharraf’s plea for provision of security upon his return to the country.

The minister accepted Musharraf’s plea to provide security upon his return to the country pertaining several cases, while travelling details of the former president were demanded by the ministry to ensure provision of timely foolproof security, it was mentioned in a notification.

A special court on Friday ordered suspension of identity card and passport of former president Pervaiz Musharraf.

While conducting the hearing of high treason case against Musharraf, the court has sent a copy of the suspension order to the Interior Ministry for immediate action.

On the other hand, the former president has decided to return to the country, while he has also requested the government to provide him security since there is ‘threat’ to Musharraf’s life.

Pervaiz Musharraf’s counsel Advocate Akhtar Shah filed an application in the Federal and Defence Ministry requesting to provide the former president with security since ‘he is willing to present himself before the court pertaining cases against him’.
