‘Govt should constitute commission to probe Hussain Haqqani issue’

LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that the government should not waste time on Hussain Haqqani case and should rather constitute a commission to probe the issue.

“Why is the government leaking stories?” Kaira asked, adding that it would be better if the government frames a commission on Hussain Haqqani issue and go ahead with it rather than remaining silent and doing backdoor politics on the issue.

Talking to a private TV channel on Friday, he said opponents of PPP claim that Hussain Haqqani had special powers to issue visas to Americans, which is a conspiracy against the party. “All these allegations are based on pre-assumptions to malign and defame PPP,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, PPP spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said it was not a major question whether Yousuf Raza Gillani wrote the letter to Haqqani or not but the question was that how Osama bin Laden came to Pakistan?

“Who issued the visas to Americans who used to fly planes from Shamsi Airbase?” he asked. “All this should be investigated.”
