ISLAMABAD: As many as 129,534 cases of human rights violations were reported across the country during the last five years, according to the data of National Police Bureau (NPB).

Responding to the complaints, 174,119 accused were arrested during the said period, figures revealed by the bureau show.

The data compiled by NPB revealed that nature of these cases included murder, honour killing, kidnapping, sexual assault, acid attack, violence against women and children, among other violations.

The data was obtained by the Ministry of Human Rights, the inspector general police (IGP) offices concerned and relevant police departments.

According to data, 1,169 cases were reported from Islamabad, 109,031 from Punjab, 10,967 from Sindh, 4,607 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 3,760 from Balochistan, officials documents available with reporters stated.

Subsequently, police have arrested 1,895 accused from Islamabad, 149,300 from Punjab, 9,654 from Sindh, 7,546 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 5,724 from Balochistan.

Earlier, Pakistan had conducted its first-ever international conference on human rights,, which was held at a local hotel in Islamabad, in which speakers urged authorities concerned for collaborative efforts to end human rights violations.

The event was organised by the Federal Ministry for Human Rights and was attended by national and foreign delegates. The guests who participated in the event included officials of international human rights, representatives from the United Nations, parliamentarians, government officials, diplomats, members of civil society, people from different non-governmental organisations (NGOs), INGOs, academia and the media personnel.
