The former president also alleged that Rabbani did not take up the party’s reservations regarding the 18th Amendment and tried to side with Nawaz Sharif during his tenure as the Senate chairman.
Zardari held that he had the support of enough MNAs to have his candidate of choice elected as the Senate chairman. He was talking to the media after a meeting with Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and newly elected senators from the province.
Earlier on Wednesday, while addressing a press conference alongside Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Zardari had said that he was not interested in nominating Rabbani for the chairmanship of the Upper House. Earlier, PML-N quaid Nawaz Sharif suggested that his party would support Rababni if the PPP nominated him again for the top slot.
