BAHAWALPUR: The Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) Engineers Association’s Bahawalpur chapter condemned termination of 10 sub divisional officers belonging to Muzaffargarh.

Talking to reporters, MEPCO Engineers Association General Secretary Abdul Rauf and other members Gul Muhammad, Mubashir Rizvi, Khawaja Niaz and Subhan termed the move as unjustified.

They said that their protest would continue until the officers were reinstated.

“If the government did not reinstate these SDOs then the protest would be extended,” they said.

In December 2016, MEPCO terminated 10 SDOs for using doctored snaps of meter reading on electricity bills in the city.

Separately, Provincial Census Commissioner Arif Anwar Baloch urged census staff to collect accurate data.

He made these remarks while presiding over a meeting to review census and house enumeration campaign in Bahawalpur. The meeting reviewed about various matters pertaining to census and house enumeration process and the performance of the field staff in this regard.

“Census and House enumeration field staff should wear symbolic jackets and display their CNIC cards for their proper and adequate identification for public which is essential to seek the cooperation of the concerned population,” Baloch said.

The meeting was attended by Bahawalpur Deputy Commissioner Saleem Afzal, Joint Census Commissioner Akbar Dogar and Cantonment Executive Officer Zafar Mahmood.

Baloch directed the officials concerned to ensure the payment of honorarium to the field staff within the stipulated time. The meeting was briefed that census and house enumeration process was underway and the target fixed in this regard would be met.
