‘Women have immense potential to work in the field of science’

ISLAMABAD: Women have much potential to work in the field of science and technology. Women scientists and female students must not pay attention to negative remarks against them and instead should keep on moving forward to prove their excellence, Ministry of Science & Technology Federal Secretary Yasmin Masood said on Wednesday.

She was speaking as the chief guest at a popular science lecture titled Women in Science by European Union Delegation to Pakistan Charge d’Affaires Anne Marchal at the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF).

The lecture was organised by the PSF in collaboration with EU Delegation to Pakistan and Ministry of Science & Technology. This very important event was aimed at highlighting the achievements of women scientists to celebrate the International Women’s Day observed all over the world on March 8 every year.

The federal secretary said that the EU programme had helped Pakistan in joint scientific research work and called upon women scientists to get maximum benefit out of this international research funding. She said EU programmes would help in gender parity in the country.

Yasmin Masood said such lectures and events gave recognition to women and were motivational for young scientists and students.

Anne Marchal during her lecture on Women in Science, spoke at length about EU programmes in Pakistan, especially EU Programme Horizon 2020 and called upon Pakistani women scientists to send maximum joint research projects’ proposals.

She also highlighted the achievements of Nobel Laureate Swiss-French Scientist Madam Curie.
