Locals of Jamrud hold protest against KP Police

KHYBER AGENCY: Residents of Jamrud conducted a protest demonstration on Wednesday against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police for allegedly initiating an illegal operation inside the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

The protest rally was organised at Bab-e-Khyber, where dozens of tribal elders, members of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) besides local tribals were among the participants. The protesters chanted slogans against police actions in Jamrud.

While addressing the occasion, tribal elites including Malik Salahuddin, Malik Daud, JUI-F local leader Said Kabir, PPP Khyber Agency President Hazrat Wali Afridi and others categorically condemned the raid conducted by the Peshawar police on Tuesday at Ghundi area and said the police personnel violated the law as they had no authority to enter its tribal belt for such a kind of operation.

They maintained that Khasadar and Levies force in FATA was competent enough to curtain crimes and to restore law and order situation but besides the fact, the police since long repeatedly disobeyed the law entering in Karkhano area of Jamrud and harassed the shopkeepers that was regretful.

The agitators’ demanded of the authorities concerned to restrain the Peshawar police of the offense otherwise they would begin indefinite protest against them.
