Population boom

Author: Daily Times

Sir: The federal minister for Power Division, Awais Leghari, has said that Pakistan’s population will reach 250 million by 2025. He also shed light on the problems of water shortage. Our reservoirs cannot store the required volume of water. We will face drought due to lack of steady supply of water.

Due to scarcity of water we are able to store only 10% of water. According to international standards it should be 40 percent. He announced that First Water policy will become effective within few months. The policy will implement strict regime to minimize the losses and damage caused by the current situation. These issues need to be tackled immediately. Population is rapidly growing against the depleting sources of water and food. We will be facing drought conditions pretty soon. We must insulate ourselves against the burgeoning water crisis.
