LAHORE: Pakistan Food Authority (PFA) sealed off sixty substandard sweets production units.
A seven-day operation led by the ADG operations raided 1,202 sweets production units. PFA sacked 670 kilograms of artificial sweeteners, 410 kilograms of low-quality food color and 1600 kilograms of substandard sweets found at the production units.
From February 28 till March 5, about 221 units were fined, where 867 units have been issued a warning and 13 units were sealed with prior warnings.
Raids were carried out all over Lahore and its connecting districts, raiding 449 units in Lahore, 515 units in Rawalpindi and 238 sweets production units in Southern Punjab.
The ADG operations took notice of the use of artificial flavors, textile colors and low-quality ingredients in the production of sweets so that appropriate action is taken against such production units.
