Murad calls for supply of clean water

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, presiding over a meeting regarding supply of potable water has directed the concerned departments to take drastic measures for the purpose.

The chief minister said that the Supreme Court has given clear guidelines for provision of clean water to the people of Sindh. “As a matter of fact, it is our basic responsibility to do the job honestly.”

He directed Secretary irrigation and environment department to not allow release of industrial water into River Indus, any canal or in the sea. “It must be treated before releasing anywhere,” he said and directed them to make a comprehensive plan for the purpose and take all the stakeholders into confidence.

Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the WASA and KWSB managing directors to make their water distribution system safe and efficient and also evolve a regular inspection system to ensure proper implementation of SOPs like mixing of Chlorine in water as per requirement, cleansing of storage ponds and timely maintenance of sewerage system so that the complaints of mixing up of clean water with sewerage water come to an end.

The chief minister also directed health department to install some more new incineration machines and repair or restore the old ones so that hospital waste could also be done away with as per international standards.

He also told all the concerned departments that he would also visit the water distribution system and treatment of municipal, industrial and hospital waste personally through surprise visits.

The meeting was attended by provincial ministers, Manzoor Wassan- Industries, Jam Khan Shoro Local government, Shief Secretary Rizwan Memon, Principal Secretary to CM Naveed Kamran Baloch, Secretary Irrigation Jamal Shah, Secretary Local Government Ramzan Awan, Secretary Public Health Engineering Tameez Khero, managing directors of water boards and others.
