Gang war returns to Lyari, 12 injured in grenade attack

KARACHI: The prevailing calm in the Liyari is likely to prove short-lived as notorious gangsters have again entrenched themselves against each other. The sudden surged in the violence, gang war, has alerted the law enforcement agencies.

On Saturday night at least 12 people were wounded in a grenade attacks in Lyari’s Brohi Mohalla, Singu Lane and Chakiwara areas. The injured were moved to Civil Hospital for treatment where one of the injured persons was said to be in critical condition. The area which was targeted with grenade is said to be a stronghold of Uzair Baloch and the attack was carried out apparently by the rival gangster group, DSP Zahid Hussain said.

After the grenade attack police cordoned off the area. Meanwhile one notorious criminal was killed in ensuing encounter.

In a similar attack few days ago, a person, Tanveer Bulaedi, was killed in incident of firing between rival groups. The deceased was brother of Ameen Buledi, a close associate of Uzair Baloch, source from Liyari said.

“Remnant elements of gangsters Noor Muhammad alias Baba Ladla and Uzair Baloch have managed to control their strongholds in Liyari”, source in police told Daily Times.

After the death of Baba Ladla, in an encounter with LEAs, his family members and comrades who blamed Uzair Baloch for his murder and vowed to revenge his murder. For this purpose notorious commander of Baba Ladla group, Agha Shaukat and others have come back in Liyari and reorganized and activated the group under the command of Zahid Ladla, brother of Baba Ladla. The groups are now carrying out attacks against each other.

After the grenade attack police cordon off the area. Meanwhile one notorious criminal was killed in ensuing encounter. Police and Rangers are likely to carryout overnight operation.
