Activists pay tribute to icons of resistance

Author: Haider Ali

A session at the LLF titled ‘Mazahmati Shairi’ paid tribute to poets and activists in Pakistan who fought injustice through their work. It was moderated by Dr Azra Raza and had feminist poet Kishwar Naheed as speaker.

In their discussion, they paid tribute to poets Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Ahmed Fraz, Habib Jalib and others for raising voice against oppression through poetry.

Kishwar paid tribute to human rights activist Asma Jahangir by reading her poetry which she wrote two years ago on request of the latter.

A little mismanagement was also observed on the occasion when some members of the audience criticised Kishwar and some other poets for allegedly overlooking America’s role of violence in Pakistan and the Muslim world.

At the end of the session, poet Kishwar Naheed received standing ovation from the audience for her literary services.
