PRCS National Squash Championship starts

PESHAWAR: First Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) National Youth Squash Championship held at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex with 120 players in one girls’ and four boys’ categories for the top honour. Chairman PRCS KP Chapter Lt Gen (Retd) Mohammed Hamid Khan was chief guest on this occasion. Vice Chairperson PRCS KP, Ms Azra Jamshed Karim, Legendry Squash player and Youth Ambassador of PRCS KP, Qamar Zaman, Chief Referee Pakistan Squash Federation Munawar Zaman, officials, players and large numbers of spectators were also present. In his address Gen Hamid Khan said he was happy to see the revival of sports activities in KP and more importantly PRCS KP playing its role in it apart from the organization core activities of response to disasters and health care. He said the credit of uplifting the championship to national level instead of that at provincial level held the previous year goes to Qamar Zaman and his support in this regard is highly commendable. Highlighting the importance of sports, Lt Gen (Rtd) Mohammed Hamid Khan said playing games makes children strong but unfortunately the new generation due to the arrival of social media, stick to computer and mobiles which damages their physical and mental growth. He said that such like events should be organized on regular intervals to motivate the youth. Former World Champion and Vice President Pakistan Squash Federation Qamar Zaman during his speech said he was greatly impressed by the humanitarian works of PRCS KP and it motivated him for organizing such like events with PRCS KP. “Last year we successfully organized First PRCS KP Junior Squash Championship and hopefully in the coming year we will go one step further by organizing event at International level”, Qamar Zaman said. He said the purpose of the championship was to provide opportunities to the youth to make a name for themselves and the country.
