Nawaz in trouble, not democracy: Bilawal

Author: Kashif Hussain

LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has said that Nawaz Sharif wanted to create a constitutional crisis in the country.

Talking to reporters at party’s provincial secretariat in Model Town on Thursday, the PPP chief believed that there was no threat to the democratic system in the country and that the election process for Senate would take place as per schedule.

Bilawal said that he wanted rule of law in the country. He said all decisions of the Supreme Court needed to be accepted and implemented in true letter and spirit. He said that Nawaz Sharif wanted disturbance in the system just to divert attention of the people, but he would not succeed in his designs.

The PPP chief termed Nawaz Sharif’s ongoing campaign of ‘Mujhe Kiyun Nikala’ a drama like his previous acts of plane hijacking and attack on the Supreme Court.

To a query, Bilawal said that he was engaged in a political fight with PML-N, hence there was no reason for him to meet Maryam Nawaz. He was optimistic that the people would ‘punish’ PML-N through votes in the upcoming general elections and hoped that the PPP would stand victorious.

Bilawal said that he wanted to change Punjab into a progressive province but he couldn’t do it alone. He said that Punjab was ruined by the martial law of General (r) Pervez Musharraf and the politicians promoted by General Ziaul Haq in the past. He demanded the accountability of General (r) Pervez Musharraf along with disqualified premier Nawaz Sharif. He said it reflects poorly if decisions are taken against politicians and not against military dictators.
