Three killed in two targeted incidents

KARACHI: An electronic shop owner and another man were shot and killed in a targeted killing in the outskirts of the metropolis on Wednesday.

The incident took place in Naseerabad area within the limits of Bin Qasim Town police station. Police officials said that two unidentified armed men with their faces covered with handkerchiefs came to the shop on a motorcycle and opened indiscriminate fire.

The assailants managed to escape after committing the crime. The shopkeeper and another man at the shop suffered bullet injuries and were being taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre when they passed away. The deceased were later identified as 35-year-old Omar Khan, son of Moosa Khan; and 40-year-old Nawab Khan, son of Haji Sultan.

Dhani SHO Buksh Marri said that Omar Khan was the owner of the shop where electronics items were sold on installments. He said both the men were residents of Pipri area. Their bodies were later handed over to the families for burial.

Extra contingent of the law enforcers also reached the site and recovered at least five empty shells of a 9mm pistol. Police officials, while quoting initial investigations, said that the incident did not occur over offering resistance on a robbery bid. They said initial investigation suggested that the incident apparently occurred over personal enmity. A case has been registered while further investigation is underway.

Separately, a man was shot and killed in an act of targeted killing in Orangi Town. Police officials said that the deceased was a resident of Baloch Goth and the incident took place when the victim was sitting on the roadside near his home. SHO Haseeb Qureshi said that the deceased was identified as Ashiq Ali.

Ali’s family has accused one Ashraf Magsi of involvement in the killing over personal enmity. A case has been registered while further investigation is underway.

Separately, a suspected robber was killed as he along with his accomplice was trying to rob a police officer in Bufferzone area on Wednesday. Police officials said that the incident took place at Sector 15, Bufferzone, within the limits of Taimuria police station.

Police officials said that the robbery suspect was trying to snatch cell phone, cash and other valuables from a police’s sub-inspector Qaiser Ahmed at gunpoint when the police officer offered resistance and foiled his robbing bid, while restoring to firing at the suspects. Resultantly, one of the suspects was injured and the other managed to escape.

The injured suspect was later taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

SHO Nawaz Brohi said that the police officer who killed the suspect is posted to the Special Investigation Unit, adding that the incident took place when he was on his way to home after completing his night duty. He said that the body of the suspect was shifted to an Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth area for identification purposes.

A case has been registered while further investigation is underway.
