KARACHI: Local Government Department (LGD) Sindh hopes that 10 development projects in Karachi will be completed by the end of June this year, 2017.

Niaz Soomro, Project Director of Project Directorate LGD informed Daily Times that LGD has also made changes in some projects in order to rectify the reservations raised by Waseem Akhtar, Mayor of Karachi.

The LGD will bear more than Rs 6.70 billions on the completion of these projects out of 18 projects worth ‘Rs 10 billion Karachi Development Mega Projects’.

The conflict on land of Pakistan Railway has been resolved and remaining work on Malir-15 flyover with a cot of Rs 1.22 billion would be completed in June 2017, he said. Though Malir-15 Flyover is not the part of mega projects but due to inconvenience of motorists, this project had given due importance, he informed.

Conflict on Natha Khan Goth Bridge has also been settled down with Pakistan Army and in this connection LGD has agreed to pay Rs 30.20 million to COD office for dismantling 40-feet boundary wall. In this respect payment would be made within 15 days, Soomro said.

This settlement has been made in order to construct a U-turn to keep the flow of traffic besides making Shah-rahe-Faisal signal-free.

The expansion project of Shah-rahe-Faisal from Gora Gubrustan to Metropole Hotel and from Karsaz to Drigh Road would also be completed by end June this year, he asserted.

In April 2017, the construction work on Sharah-e-Quaideen to Shaheed-e-Millat Road Rs 569 million-project would also be completed.

Besides after dismantling two wings of Baloch Colony Bridge with a cost of Rs 120 million and re-carpeting of 4-kilometer road from Karsaz to FTC flyover would be completed in April.

Completion of work on projects in May 2017 includesHub River Road (Rs 658 million), Manghopir Road (Rs 912 million) and a portion of University Road from Safoora Chowk to NIPA (Rs 777 million).

In June 2017, University Road from Civic Centre to NIPA (Rs 832 million), Drigh Road Underpass (Rs 840 million), Natha Khan Flyover (Rs 260 million) and Rs 933 million would be spent on widening and building of Shahah-e-Faisal Road from Metropole Hotel to Star Gate.

Soomro said, “Department is monitoring on-going work on all development projects round the clock”. Reports on the progress are also being sent to Chief Minister Sindh on regular basis, he informed.

The people of Karachi and especially those who belong to these areas and travel daily can notice a big change and will able to reach their destinations timely without any traffic hazard, he remarked.
