Fraudsters deprive jobless youths of their life-time saving

KARACHI: Khan Muhammad Memon is experiencing sleepless nights for last one year as he is unable recoup his Rs 5 million that he paid for appointment of his relatives including his son in Education Department.

Memon, a resident of Gulshan-e-Hadeed (Steel Town) fall in the hands of a gang active in the lower cadre of Sindh Education Department in the area which lured mostly unemployed youths in the name of providing employments in the department. Memon’s case emerged in 2016 when he approached the area police station and later to anti Corruption department.

“I knew a person, Muhammad Khan Burhani who was a High School Teacher at Gulshan-i-Iqbal, I told him that my son is unemployed and I am worried about his future”, Memon said adding “after two days I went to the house of Burhani where his others friends who were identified as Shafi Muhammad Shar, Yaqoob Memon, Mehboob Burahni, Muhammad Qasim Magrio, Shabaz Khan, Shamsher Ali Khan, Irshad Ali Bhagan, were present. Burhani informed me that they are all partners and providing jobs to the needy persons”.

During the meeting they agreed to appoint my son and other relatives in education department, Memon informed. “They also demanded 400,000 for lower cadre jobs and 700,000 for higher posts of senior teachers and offered me to chose the options and payment mode and get appointment letters”, Memon added.

Next day, Muhammad Khan paid Rs 5.25 and received appointment letters. After receiving appointment those applicants joined their duties in Gulshan-e-Hadeed Government High Schools and Ebrahem Ali Bhai Secondary School and waited for their salaried for three months. Upon further inquired they found that the letter issued to them were bogus.

Consequently, the effectees informed Anti-Corruption Establishment about the fraud. The ACE registered a case against Burhani and his associates.

During the investigation the gang members admitted that they were used to lure jobless persons for providing jobs in education department. They disclosed that they had managed appointments for two persons as Junoir School Teachers and arranged their joining at government high school in Steel Town where gang deposited amount of their salaries in the account of Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) at Ebrahim Ali Bhai Boys Secondary School Orangi Town and the same account was used by appointees to draw salaries.

During the investigation the gang also admitted to have received over Rs 5 million from other jobless persons for issuing fake appointment letters.

Despite lapse of one year the ACE still remains clueless about the real culprits while those deprived of their savings wait to recover even part of their money.
