LAHORE: An application was filed on Monday requesting Station House Officer (SHO) Gulberg to register an FIR against Farooq Maududi, Munezai Jahangir and several others for taking part in ‘mixed gathering’ at Asma Jahangir’s funeral.

Abdul Malik, resident of Sheikhupura and a lawyer by profession, filed the application claiming that the mixed gathering at lawyer and human rights activist Asma Jahangir’s funeral was ‘against the teachings and practices of Islam’.

The applicant mentioned Farooq Maududi, who led Asma’s funeral prayer, and daughter Munezai Jahangir among 100 ‘unnamed’ individuals, while he also requested the SHO to register an FIR and subsequently take action against the attendees.

Malik added that the gathering has ‘hurt sentiments’ of Muslims across the globe and specially of those living in Pakistan and alleged the funeral attendees of ‘insulting Islam’. The application mentioned that such an act was also a violation of Article 295A of the Pakistan Penal Code.
