No public execution

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Imran Ali, the rapist and murderer of seven year old Zainab Ansari from Kasur has been found guilty of the crime, as well as seven other child rapes and murder. He has confessed to the crime. It seems like justice will be done. However, news of his convictions has brought out those proposing a public execution for Imran Ali on social media. At this critical juncture, let us remember the difference between justice and vengeance. Justice is meant to restore balance and order to a society. A public hanging will only drive us further into barbarism — it won’t bring order and safety.

Instead, our children will be given the message that threats of violence are an effective way to keep oneself safe. This will only cause more chaos and disorder in the long run. Let us hope that sanity prevails.
