CJP urged to take notice of illegal construction

Islamabad: The owners and tenants of three commercial plazas in F-8 Markaz of Islamabad have appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court to take notice of illegal construction of lawyers chambers on public space, says a statement issued to the media on Friday.

The statement, signed on behalf of the owners and tenants of commercial buildings near sessions’ courts of Islamabad, said that multi-storey chambers were being constructed by lawyers on space designated for public parking and footpaths. “Most of existing one-room, single storey chambers are already illegal but now lawyers are compounding the illegality by brazenly encroaching on public space,” it said, adding that this was causing immense hardship to the tenants and their visitors. The tenants included the Federal Ombudsperson against Harassment among others.

“We had brought the issue to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner in 2010 but the Capital Development Authority took no action. We herewith request you to take a suo moto of this brazen violation of law by defenders of law (who have also occupied part of the F-8 Public Football Ground), and also ask CDA as to how it has allowed the illegal construction and appropriation of public space,” the statement said.
