BUREWALA: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Thursday that liars would be defeated in the upcoming general elections.

He was addressing a rally in Burewala on Thursday.

“Khan and Zardari did nothing for their provinces, can’t even show their faces in the provinces they have their government in. They wish to halt progress in Punjab by calling strikes and holding sit-ins,” he said.

Shehbaz said that Zardari should bring back wealth looted from the country before accusing others of corruption. “If we get a chance, we will turn Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta into the next Lahore,” he said.

Referring to PML-N’s recent surprise victory in NA-154 by-polls, the chief minister said Jahangir Tareen had spent billions, yet victory “was handed to a candidate by God who roamed among the people and not in helicopters.”

“The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif promised to the nation four and half years earlier that load-shedding will be overpowered. Due to our continued efforts, load-shedding is over now. The federal and the Punjab governments have jointly established electricity projects of thousands of megawatts capacity and completed the energy projects under the CPEC as well. During the next summer season, the rooms will be cold as fans will work. Similarly, trade and economic activities will be in full swing and agriculture sector will also be having good productivity,” he said.

“Khan sahib, please tell the people that where is your generated electricity. Is it in the skies, beneath the earth or is it hiding in the mountains? I advise the Niazi Sahib to stop speaking lies and take mercy on this nation and go back home because politics is beyond your capacity and potential. This sham Khan Sahib also said that they would not go for metro bus project and the money would be spent on developing institutions like schools, colleges and hospitals. When dengue attacked Peshawar, they had no treatment arrangements and this person escaped to the mountains to avoid the dengue attack. When dengue attacked Lahore in 2011, then we fully countered and eliminated it,” the CM said.

Shehbaz said the government had fulfilled its promises and had ensured that the country no longer faced power outages. “The government has ensured building of roads in rural areas to facilitate the people. Better medical facilities are being provided in the rural areas of the province. There is a hospital under construction in Burewala. CT scan machines are being installed in all hospitals of Punjab.”

Shehbaz also promised that University of Agriculture sub-campus Burewala would be turned into a full agricultural university. As part of infrastructure development in Vehari, Shahbaz announced the construction of a bridge on river Sutlej from Burewala to Chishtian.

He also announced to make Gaggo Mandi as a new Tehsil out of Burewala. He announced to build a medical college at Vehari, a two-way road from Adda Rasool Pur Burewala to Chowk Maitla, Luddan to Vehari if elected after 2018 general elections.

Before reaching the rally, the chief minister had inaugurated several education, infrastructure, health, sports and agriculture projects worth billion of rupees in Vehari, Burewala and Mailsi. He had inaugurated an E-library at Vehari’s sports stadium, a special education center, slow learners institute, Rescue 1122 service in Burewala district, a mobile health unit in Vehari District, up-gradation of DHQ Hospital to a 300-bed facility among other projects.

Parliamentarians including MNAs Saeed Ahmad Khan Manais, Chaudhry Nazir Ahmad Arain, Syed Sajid Mehdi, Tehmina Daultana, provincial ministers Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan, Naeem Khan Bhabha, Asif Saeed Manais, Imram Gardezi, MPA,s Ch. Irshad Ahmad Arain, Saqib Khurshid, Muhammad Yousaf Kaseliya, Farah manzoor Khan, Shameel Aslam, Chairman Zila Council, Ghulam Mohiuddin Chishtti, Chairman Municipal Committee Burewala Muhammad Ashiq Arain and others were present on the occasion.
