KARACHI: The provincial minister of Local Government, Jam Khan Shoro on Thursday has said that elected representatives of Karachi is doing politics on city cleaning as they have all powers under the law but they are crying for authority.
“Sindh Government has been paying Rs800 million to six districts and one district council on monthly basis for disbursement of salaries and cleaning activities”, he said. In March 2017, the Sindh Government disbursed an amount of Rs88.9 million to the District South, Rs 17.9 million to Central District, Rs 11.9 million to East, Rs 21.8 million to District West, Rs 15.1 million to Korangi district while the District Malir given Rs 11.9 million and Octroi Zilla Tax (OZT) share, he added.
Under the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, the Chinese company assigned contract for garbage disposal to the districts of South and East and the work has been commenced. Sindh Government would provide millions of rupees grant to the Chinese company, in this regard, he informed. Under the law, the provincial government is providing OZT share to six districts and one District Council of Karachi and OZT share has also been increased, he pointed out.
“Unfortunately, during the last term of Karachi City Nazim, there are so many people were recruited on political basis and of these a large number of workers were ‘Ghost Employees’ burdening financially to the districts” he remarked. These powers-mongers are actually responsible for the injustices done to the people of Karachi and responsible for illegal appointments, worst conditions of sanitation across the city, cleaning, garbage disposal and roads morass, Shoro concluded.
