MQM man slapped with FIR for pulling gun on PTI social media activist

Author: Imran Awan

KARACHI: A Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) MNA faces two inquiries as an FIR was registered against on him on Tuesday for pointing a gun at a senior activist of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf and Taimuria police started a probe on the same day on allegations of sexual assault and blackmail.

The FIR registered by the Gizri police on Imran Ismail’s complaint stated that Salman Mujahid Baloch pointed a gun at Ahsan Alvi, a PTI social media activist, and his driver in Defence View area.

The FIR said that Ahsan Alvi was driving in a narrow street in Defence Phase-II when Salman Mujahid came in his black coloured Toyota Hilux Vigo along with his police guards from the opposite direction. “When Alvi’s driver could not immediately give way to Salman Mujahid’s vehicle, he got infuriated,” it said, adding that he came out of the car and pointed a gun at Alvi and threatened him with dire consequences as well.

Following the incident, PTI leaders including Imran Ismail, Ali Zaidi and Khurram Zaman approached the Gizri police where the FIR was registered on directions of the provincial home minister Sohail Anwar Siyal.

The home minister also ordered law enforcement authorities to withdraw security of the MQM-P leader, saying that no one could be allowed to take the law into their own hands. The home minister also ordered Additional IG Mushtaq Mahar to investigate the incident.

Separately, the Taimuria police in the District Central on Tuesday initiated an inquiry against Salman Mujahid on sexual assault and blackmail allegations.

The girl had approached the District Central Magistrate with a written complaint seeking action against Mujahid. Taimuria police were then directed to proceed in the matter. SHO Nawaz Brohi said, “We have accepted her application against the Mujahid. The girl has accused Baloch of sexually assaulting her and making her video with the help of hidden cameras at Parliament Lodges in Islamabad.”

The application, a copy of which is available with Daily Times, states, “He (Baloch) called me at Islamabad on the pretext of giving me a job where he sexually assaulted me and even made a video from a hidden camera. Then he started threatening and blackmailing me while demanding Rs4 million in exchange of the video.”

“She is in Islamabad right know and is quite scared of the situation so we haven’t yet tried to record her statement,” said Gulshan-i-Iqbal SHO Rashid Alwai while talking to Daily Times.

Earlier, in the second week of January, Mujahid had registered an FIR with Gulshan-e-Iqbal police against the same girl and her relatives under Sections 420 and 506 of the PPC, claiming that she had borrowed Rs4million from him on pretext that she needed to pay for her mother’s medical treatment. However, the girl and her family then started blackmailing and threatening him when he asked her to pay back the money, the FIR said.

Though Baloch was unavailable for comments but speaking to the media earlier in the day he had denied allegations against him in both cases.
