‘Projects without planning are loss of money’

Author: By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA: PPP Information Secretary Sagheer Butt said development projects without proper planning are merely a loss of national exchequer.

Besides huge expenditure involved in construction of Aziz Cross Flyover at Pindi bypass, traffic problem can be still witnessed on GT Road especially from Iqbal High School to Aziz Cross because GT Road at these points is so narrow to control the traffic flow and most parts of the road have been marked as green belt and traffic jams at these points has become a routine.

It seems that all the mega projects in the city are being constructed on the directions of political figures and no proper planning to facilitate the residents of the city was being done. At this time two flyovers in Gujranwala have been constructed, including Aziz cross flyover and City flyover. The City flyover which was started from Iqbal High School to Sheikhupura Mor, was completed about two years before while two lanes of Aziz Cross flyover have been opened for the traffic and rest construction work is being completed speedily. Citizens are in the view that lack of planning in these projects caused huge loss to government exchequer because they are still facing great traffic problems at G.T. Road. Traffic jams at Iqbal High School, Gondlanwala Chowk, Sialkoti Gate, Sheranwala Bagh and Nigar Phatak have become a routine matter in these days. Sagheer Butt said that the concerned authorities should take notice of the matter and to become the two flyovers fruitful GT Road from Aziz Cross to Iqbal High School may be got widen by reducing the green belt areas. He said green belts at both the sides of G.T road has covered about 100 feet area and if concerned authorities shifted the green belt in the middle of the road and widen the both sides of the road then it will be helpful to streamline the traffic on GT Road.
