LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Monday announced that it has decided to make level 2 training for Kitchen Manager, Head Chef and Assistant Chef mandatory in restaurants throughout Punjab.
In a meeting with Lahore Restaurants Association, chaired by Director General PFA Noor ul Amin Mengal at PFA Headquarters, the authority has directed restaurants to ensure presence of a trained hygiene incharge. It was also said that PFA will launch a consultancy service for Food Business Operators (FBOs).
DG PFA said that the food authority will not spare anyone for noncompliance of the PFA’s instructions once the authority’s designated deadline of September 1 ends.
He added that the quality of food will improve with the presence of level 2 trained staff in restaurants and that presence of a hygience incharge will also ensure better handling of edible items.
Last year in May, PFA inaugurated training school for restaurant staff, which aims to provide training on four levels.
Level 1 aims to educate students about better handling of cooked and prepared food. Level 2 aims to provide training to cooks and chefs, while the third will offer managerial-level courses.
The fourth and final level deals with development and training of teachers for the training course.
