KHYBER AGENCY: The political administration revised its passport condition for Torkham border movement and gave three days extension to all transporters to cross the border by showing the original identity card at the border.

According to an administration official, an order issued by the Political Agent and Assistant Political Agent, Landikotal offices directed the Torkham administration to let the loaded Afghanistan bound Pakistani trucks to cross the border by producing the original ID cards.

The notice further read that it would be effective from April 01 and the exemption would be valid for three days. It is to be mentioned here that resuming of Torkham after 32 days, the Pakistani border security officials had set a compulsory condition for all the Pakistani nationals to have their passports while crossing either side of the border and the transporters had broken into open agitation against it and had been protesting as well. They had also refused to cross the border and had parked their vehicles at the roadsides on the main Pak-Afghan highway in Khyber Agency. The transport community disapproved the new order and said three days were a meagre time and they could not manage to return soon after delivering in Afghanistan. They asked for more extension in the relaxation policy of the passport condition.
