Demo against corruption, discrimination

SUKKUR: The protest and sit-in of teachers against corruption, discrimination and favoritism entered its tenth day on Wednesday. The protesting teaching staff of Shah Abdul Latif University including Prof Dr Minhoon Khan Laghari (President SALUTA), Prof Dr Amir Ali Chandio, Prof Ishart Mirani, Prof Masihullah Jatoi, Prof Muhammad Ali Birohi, Dr Manan Shaikh and others in front of the administration block alleged that financial and administrative corruption, discrimination and favoritism had increased manifold at all levels. The Registrar, Prof Asad Raza Abidi, who belongs to a teacher group and trying to target opponents in promotions and other facilities, they alleged.

They demanded immediate removal of the registrar as his appointment was illegal and against the decision of the Supreme Court. Dr Asad Raza Abidi is a professor (BPS-21) and working as Registrar (BPS-20) which is clear violation of service rules and judgment of apex court. They demanded promotions of faculty members without any discrimination, release of pensions of teachers, issuance of MPhil/PhD degrees in light of HEC rules. They said their struggle would be continued till acceptance of their demands. Meanwhile, leaders of Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association Progressive Group visiting the site urged Vice Chancellor to resolve issues.
