Sir: The agriculture holds great significance for Pakistan. Pakistan has great potential in terms of
agricultural growth. This field is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and is contributing 25 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
Agriculture sector plays a vital role in the economic development of any country. This is confirmed and supported by the fact that the GDP growth rate in Pakistan is mostly reliant upon the growth rate of the agriculture sector. If the rate of growth in agriculture sector remains low, it results in shortage of food and other necessary raw materials in the country. As a result, the prices of essential goods go up.
The government has to increase efforts to develop and promote value chains in the agriculture sector which would not only help alleviate poverty but also fetch foreign exchange.
