LAHORE: Government of Pakistan official Youtube channel was restored on Saturday after temporary suspension over complaints of copyrights infringement from multiple users.
Youtube on Friday suspended the government’s channel after clips from a local vlogger Irfan Junejo’s videos were used without due credits. The Youtuber said that GoP never asked for his permission before using clips from his video titled ‘Family Friendly Activities in Pakistan‘.
Junejo added that his clips have been copied by people before, but he was hurt since the Government of Pakistan official channel ‘stole’ his work and tried to defend their act.
The website terminated GoP’s account with an on-screen message that said: “This account has been terminated because we received multiple third-party claims of copyright infringement regarding material the user posted.”
In the wake of Youtube’s move to suspend the government’s account, Junejo took to Twitter and expressed gratitude to website users for ‘help and support’, possibly hinting at people reporting the GoP channel for copyrights infringement.
Junejo also urged the government to not use someone’s intellectual property without permission after Youtube restored the terminated channel.
A couple of hours later, however, he said that he received a call from a government representative who assured the vlogger of collaboration in the future. He also confirmed in his Tweet that the two parties have buried the hatchet.
