LONDON: Arsenal have signed Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from German club Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday for a club record fee of £56m.
The 28-year-old, who scored 141 goals in his 213 appearances with Dortmund, has signed a long-term contract with the London club.
The Gabonese is Arsenal’s second signing of 2018 after former teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan signed for the Gunners from Manchester United in a swap deal which saw the club’s forward Alexis Sanchez make a move to the Old Trafford.
Aubameyang has also scored 23 goals in his 56 national team appearances, while the former Saint-Etienne frontman has also bagged Player of the Year 2016 and Top Goal Scorer 2017 awards in German top division.
The club sources have also hinted at forward Olivier Giroud’s departure before the transfer deadline ends at midnight today.
Responding to a question regarding Giroud’s departure, coach Arsene Wenger said that whether Giroud stays or not will be decided tomorrow as ‘unusual’ things happen on deadline days.
