SWABI: At least three members of the transgender community were injured during a firing incident in Swabi’s Yar Hussain tehsil on Sunday night.

Transgender Association President Qamar Naseem said that the three transgender people were on their way after attending an event when the suspected assailants reportedly tried to sexually abuse them. When they offered resistance the attackers opened fire on them, police said, adding that two of them were critically injured during the incident.

According to police, a first investigation report (FIR) has been registered at the Yar Hussain Police Station against a suspect named Bakht Zada.

Further investigations were being conducted in the case, police told media.

According to Naseem, a total of 22 such attacks on transgenders have occurred in 2018 alone.
