SC bench formed to determine term of disqualification

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar Friday constituted a five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court to determine whether a parliamentarian disqualified under Article 62(1)(f) of the constitution stands disqualified to become a member of the parliament for lifetime or otherwise.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah will start proceedings on January 30 and hear pleas of several parliamentarians who were disqualified by the court for possessing fake degrees.

The bench will also address certain matters containing a number of constitutional questions that require interpretation.
