LAHORE: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has confirmed that no bank accounts or details of alleged bank accounts of main accused in Zainab rape case have been found, announced Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Friday.

Talking to a press conference, Ahsan said that the information shared by journalist Shahid Masood regarding alleged bank accounts of Imran Ali was ‘baseless’ and that it was a means to create sensationalism.

Anchorperson Masood on Thursday handed over to the Supreme Court the names of a provincial minister from Punjab and his influential friend who were allegedly behind the brutal rape and murder of 7-year-old Zainab in Kasur.

Masood also said that he had provided the details of 37 bank accounts of Imran to the court, adding that majority of these accounts were in foreign currency.

SBP on Friday submitted a report regarding the case to the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing rape and murder of 7-year-old Zainab from Kasur after Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif called for inquiry into the matter.

The Punjab government also called a sub-cabinet meeting headed by Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Friday following the issuance of the document, in which it was revealed that the accused Imran had no bank accounts.
