ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday distributed certificates of appreciation among Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officers who foiled suspended Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar’s attempt to leave the country.

Rao Anwar, who carried out the alleged encounter of Naqeebullah Mehsud earlier this month, attempted to escape via Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Tuesday, but was stopped by FIA officers since he did not possess a no-objection certificate (NOC).

Ahsan commended the efficiency and vigilance of the FIA officers and urged all civil servants to follow their example and work with similar dedication and professionalism.

Earlier today, a police team investigating Naqeebullah’s alleged encounter left for Islamabad to locate and arrest Rao Anwar, who has not returned to Karachi since his thwarted attempt to escape the country from the nation’s capital.

Sindh Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sultan Khawaja ensured that all necessary measures are being taken to arrest the ex-SSP after a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him earlier today.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also said that the slain would be served justice soon and that extrajudicial killings would not be tolerated in the province.

The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has ordered hearing of Naqeebullah case on January 27. Naqeebullah Mehsud, a 27-year-old South Waziristan native, was gunned down in an alleged encounter on January 13 in Shah Latif town.
