Lahore

Author: Nayyab Sarwar

Along the shore of hope

They’ve found your body doling about.

Insipid, your spectators are

As quaint as the adulterous whores

Raiding the twilight hours of Lahore.

Macabre, bloodless macabre,

In the books that sing of tomorrow,

I’ve lost your eyes

On the pages of their seams;

Raiding the twilight hours of Lahore.

Your silhouette sits at the edge of Jehangir’s tomb

Apologizing for not having written your lover’s name

On the walls with hearts for punctuation

Like the chars-spent majnus,

Raiding the twilight hours of Lahore.

Somewhere along the fog-shroud

Coddling the city’s criminals,

The folk have forgotten the blisters of May

And I’ve been huddled in the safe chaadar that is your company

Raiding the twilight hours of Lahore.
