Mayo Hospital Surgical Tower

Sir: The Mayo Hospital Surgical Tower has been completed at last after being in doldrums for some years. It has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 1.10 billion. Its completion was marked the other day when Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visiting its various sections, including operation theatres, the latest CT Scan machines and the burn unit which comprises of 91 beds.

According to the reports in the newspapers, the chief minister, while speaking at the occasion, stated that revolutionary steps are being taken to improve Punjab’s health sector. Different medical facilities have been provided to the people at their doorsteps and billions of rupees have been spent on the health sector. No dearth of resources will ever be allowed for bringing improvement in this vital sector, CT scan machines are being provided at all district headquarter hospitals throughout the province.

The chief minister also inspected the burn centre ward, ICU, treatment room, sterilization room and shower room and duly appreciated the performance of the Health Department to ensure the timely and qualitative construction of the tower, surgical transplant of amputated organs will also be available pointedly, adding that modern facilities will be provided in the Mayo Hospital Treatment of Stomach Cancer and TB and digital X-rays will also be provided.

It is good to hear about the completion of this long awaited project. It would have been more appreciable if the chief minister had also announced on the occasion as to when it will become functional for providing all the treatment facilities he had talked to the people.
