Model police stations in Isloo soon

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police Inspector General (IG) Dr Sultan Azam Temuri Islamabad Police Tuesday visited the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Addressing the business community, the inspector general said that he was working on inculcating five core values in Islamabad Police to make it a model of excellence and role model for the country.

Explaining the core values, he said Islamabad Police would be made service-oriented and people-friendly police. He said professionalism would be developed in police and equal application of law for all would be ensured. He said Islamabad Police would be made corruption free as he has zero-tolerance for corruption in police. He asked the business community to help identify corrupt people so that police force could be purged of corrupt elements.

Highlighting other initiatives, he said Islamabad has total 22 police stations out of which seven police stations would be declared model police stations in this month while gradually all police stations would be upgraded to model police stations to provide better services to the people. He said record of all police stations, including FIRs, had been computerised and technology would be used to introduce scientific investigations at police stations.

He said to bridge the gap between police and people, community policing was being developed and all segments of society including business community would be involved in community policing. He said reconciliation committees would be set up to settle out-of-court disputes and after thorough investigations, nominated people would be included in such committees. He said business community would also be given representation in such committees. He said a Citizen Police Liaison Committee was also under consideration for Islamabad.

He said smart pickets would be established in Islamabad to streamline traffic flow on roads and all faulty security cameras would be fixed under the Safe City Project. He said that on implementation of all these measures, people would see a remarkable difference in the performance of Islamabad Police. He assured that all highlighted issues of business community would be addressed.

In his welcome address, ICCI President Sheikh Amir Waheed lauded the initiatives of IG for improving the performance of Islamabad Police. He asked the inspector general to enhance surveillance at all markets and industrial areas under the Safe City Project, and said that the project should be made more effective. He said traffic rush at police pickets should be reduced by taking new measures and police behaviour at pickets should be made polite and people friendly.

He assured the inspector general that the ICCI would fully cooperate with Islamabad Police in its endeavours aimed at improving the situation of law and order in the city.

Muhammad Naveed, senior vice president ICCI, thanked the inspector general for visiting the ICCI and giving them a chance to apprise him to their issues. He hoped that the highlighted issues would be addressed by the IGP.

Founder Group Chairman Khalid Javed, Abdul Rauf Alam, Tariq Sadiq, Mian Akram Farid, Zubair Ahmed Malik, Khalid Iqbal Malik, Zafar Bakhtawari, Mian Shaukat Masud, Ajmal Baloch, Khalid Mian, Zahid ullah Habibi, Yousaf Rajput, Zia Abbasi, Ch Asif, Nasira Ali and others also highlighted issues that needed urgent attention of police.
