Hassan Zafar Arif was not murdered, claim police

KARACHI: Police investigators probing a mysterious death of a senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London Professor Hassan Zafar Arif while ruling out a possibility of a murder remained unable to find out any criminal element behind his mysterious death.

“It was trying to turn a natural death of the Professor Arif a murder on social media while sharing the pictures of the deceased taken after postmortem,” said Zone East police chief DIG Sultan Khowaja while addressing a press conference held at his office on Tuesday. “No torture mark was found in his body.”

DIG Khowaja said that the body of a deceased was found from a car while the police had also found 17, 000 rupees and some medicines as well from a car.

He said that the investigations remained underway and the police was also waiting for the chemical examination report of the deceased to ascertained the actual cause of death.

DIG Khowaja was nominated to carry out the investigations into the mysterious death of renowned philosopher and scholar Professor Hassan Zafar Arif.

In 2016, Prof Arif had joined the MQM-L.

The body of the late Marxist was found in a car in Rehri Goth area of Ibrahim Hyderi on Sunday.

He had been also served as the head of the philosophy department at Karachi University. Commonly known as Dr Sahib, he spent his entire life standing up to an anti democratic forces.

The family and friends of the deceased had earlier claimed that the Professor had gone missing since Saturday evening after he left his friend’s office in Saddar to go to his home in Defence locality to spend time with his daughter who had to leave for London on Monday.
