KHYBER AGENCY: Security forces foiled a terrorist attack from the Afghan side in Khyber Agency on Friday.

Two suicide bombers were killed by the security forces in Jarobi, Bazaar Zakha, the remote area of Tehsil Landi Kotal, a sub-division of Khyber Agency.

“Security forces foiled terrorists attack on border post in Khyber Agency,” a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

“Terrorists, including two suicide bombers from across the border attempted to target Misthara Post, two kilometres north west of Jarobi on the Pak-Afghan Border,” the statement said. “Both suicide bombers were killed and two soldiers were injured in the exchange of fire with the terrorists,” it further said. The banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan Jamaatul Ahrar said it was involved in the attack.

Sources said that early on Friday morning two men approached the Mushthai Khyber Rifles 102 Wing base camp. “The troops posted on the main entrance asked them to identify themselves. However, they kept advancing. One of them then blew himself up. The second one was shot dead by the security forces,” sources said.

The injured were shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Peshawar for medical aid, sources said. The wounded troops were identified as sepoy Amjad and sepoy Yahya, sources said.

According to security officials, the suicide bombers had crossed in from Afghanistan and their purpose was to target the Mushthari forces camp. However, the soldiers foiled their attack.

Immediately after the incident, security personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
