KDA seeks Rs 30bn from Sindh govt for development schemes

KARACHI: Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has put up Rs 30 billion development schemes including construction of bridges and roads in Karachi with Sindh government.

These schemes include construction of Rs 3 billion intercity bus terminal on 100 acres of land at Northern Bypass, building of flyovers, bridges, underpasses, 10 pedestrian bridges and bus stations, improvement of seven signalization and vehicles parking, lane markings and zebra crossings in different parts of city, Asadullah Shah, Chief Engineer of KDA informed.

Around Rs 1.78 billion worth of 11 projects would be funded through Provincial Annual Development Projects 2017-18 and 7 projects of Rs 480.53 million under grant-in-aid special package for Karachi, it is suggested.

The propose schemes include Rs 1.57 billion for KDA scheme, Rs 293.33 million for Road-2000 to Road-4000 North Karachi, Rs 288.71 million Road-2000 to Nagan Chowrangi to 9000-Road, Rs 130 million for Road-6000 from 4-K Chowrangi to Lyari River Road, Rs 40 million for 4400-Road from 7000-Road to 5000-Road North Karachi, Rs 90.86 million for Sector 11-D, 11-J, 11-F and 11-G Roads North Karachi, Rs 72.30 million for 4000-Road and 9000-Road Saba Cinema and link roads of North Karachi.

According to development scheme, Rs 190 million has been proposed for construction of bridge on Road-4000 over Lyari River North Karachi, Rs 355.71 million for Khawaja Ajmeer Nagri Road to Road-6000 North Karachi and Rs 118.14 million for 9000-Road from 2000-Road to 4000-Road North Karachi.

Rs 266.66 million has been sought for Road-7000 from Godhra to Namak Bank, Rs 42.75 million for rehabilitation of Dr Ziauddin Roundabout and road, Rs 68.58 million for improvement of Lagoon and Dodhra to Gujar Nullah Road, Rs 88.73 million for rehabilitation and improvement of road and link 4300-Road North Karachi and Rs 16.55 million for improvement of roads in Sector-4, 1-A/3, 1-B/1, Rashidabad North Karachi.

KDA has also demanded Rs 40 million for reconstruction of road and storm water drain of 4400-Road from 7000-Road to 5000-Road in North Karachi and Rs 90.86 million for reconstruction of roads in 11-D, 11-J, 11-F and 11-G North Karachi.

Similarly, Rs 36.42 million repair maintenance of 5000-Road and storm water drain from Sakhi Hassan to Surjani Chowrangi, North Karachi, Rs 42.75 million for rehabilitation of Dr Ziauddin Roundabout and connecting roads and Rs 825.86 million for lane marking, zebra crossing at major roads of Karachi.

In addition, Rs 95.637 million have been proposed for traffic management and parking plan near NIPA Flyover,University Road and Rashid Minhas Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Around Rs 91.69 million have been sought for signalization of Ziauddin Hospital intersection, Allama Rasheed Turabi Road, North Nazimabad, Rs 96.93 million for signalization of Peoples Chowrangi intersection North Karachi, Rs 92 million for signalization of Lundi Kotal intersection North Nazimabad and Rs 95.18 million for renovation of pedestrian bridges at Shahrah-e-Faisal, University Road and Rashid Minhas Road.

According to PC-I , Rs 98.32 million are needed for construction of pedestrian bridges near ZiauddinUniversity, Shahrah-e-Gazali Clifton, Benazir Park, Boat Basin Clifton, Mai Kulachi Road and Iqra University onShaheed-e-Millat Road.

Rs 77.94 million are also required for construction of pedestrian bridges near Shafique Morr, Shah Waliullah Road, Saghir Centre, Rashid Minhas Road and Mamji Hospital near Shahrah-e-Pakistan. Scheme also envisages Rs 84.28 million for construction of pedestrian bridges near Askari Park on University Road, Liaquat National Hospital on Stadium Road and Johar Morr in Gulistan-e-Johar area.

There are also proposals for infrastructure development in Korangi Township, Clifton scheme-5, scheme-33 KDA, Gulistan-e-Johar scheme-36 and areas near Civic Centre.

Asadullah opined that after approval of the scheme, several dormant departments of KDA would become functional.

However, Niaz Soomro, Project Director LGD was of the view that schemes, which are expecting to fall in the domain of KMC and District Municipal Corporations would be held back in order to avoid any conflict.

DWD Committee of Planning and Development Department (P&DD) after giving its recommendations would forward these schemes to Local Government Department (LGD) Sindh for onward disposal and decision of Sindh Chief Minister.
