Pakistani singer and songwriter who is also the country’s current singing sensation, Momina Mustehsan started off the New Year on a high note.

The beautiful musician was honoured by the American research university called Stony Brook University as they listed Momina Mustehsan as part of their 40 most successful graduates who are currently under the age of 40. Mustehsan was awarded in the category of Civil Service & Activism at the prestigious university’s 4th Annual 40 Under 40 ceremony.

For those of you who didn’t know, Mustehsan is a graduate of this university majoring in Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics & Statistics. She graduated in the year 2015. When approached by media for comment, Mustehsan expressed her excitement and feelings in the following words, “I am supremely humbled to be given the 40 Under 40 honour by Stony Brook University in the category of Civil Service & Activism. And as I accepted this award, I proudly wore my Pakistani flag, right above the Stony Brook pin – two major parts of my identity.”

The singer seems to have gone from strength to strength during her career, which is still in its baby phase. If one does not forget, Mustehsan was recently also honoured by the British Broadcasting Corporation when the broadcaster included her name in their list of 100 influential and impactful women on the globe for 2017

It’s an annual traditional for the university as it celebrates and honours 40 of its most accomplished graduates who have demonstrated achievements in business, research, technology, healthcare, arts, leadership, community, education, entrepreneurship and philanthropic endeavours. The 40 Under 40 2017 ceremony was hosted by the university’s Alumni Society where Mustehsan was invited and very much a part of. The ‘Coke Studio’ sensation and 7UP brand ambassador was presented with the award by the university’s president Samuel L Stanley Jr and the alumni association president Bedel Saget.

This decision by them was met with a mixed response from Pakistan, where some were proud of Mustehsan’s achievement, whereas others questioned her credibility on being included in the list.
