While talking to the media in Lahore on Sunday evening, Punjab Inspector General (IG) Arif Nawaz said that police would soon apprehend the culprit as all agencies were working towards the goal, but admitted that “there has been no major breakthrough so far”.
Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting to discuss the development in the case. He was briefed by the IGP through video link. The CM once again directed police to utilise all efforts to arrest the accused.
Banners, demanding the Punjab government to nab the culprits as early as possible, have been placed across Kasur.
The joint investigation team (JIT) probing the rape and murder of Zainab, and eleven other children before her in Kasur, held a meeting with families of all victims at the residence of the Kasur district police officer (DPO).
Families were given a new sketch of the possible culprit and were asked whether any of them knew him. However, none of the attendants replied in the affirmative.
Earlier on Saturday, a new CCTV footage of the suspect involved in Zainab murder case surfaced in which he can be seen roaming outside the victim’s residence.
