KARACHI: The Sindh Bar Councils warned on Friday that if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif did not step down in the wake of the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT)’s report it would launch a protest campaign to press for their demand.

An emergency meeting of the executive committee of the Sindh Bar Council was called to discuss the Panama Papers Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) disclosures about the ruling Sharif family.

Vice chairman Qurban Ali Malano presided over the meeting which was also attended by chairman Executive Committee Abdul Wahab Baloch and member of executive committee Hakim Ali Khan.

The meeting unanimously resolved that the two senior judges of the apex court have already disqualified Prime Minsiter Nawaz Sharif and ordered the ECP to de notify his membership of the National Assembly. The remaining three judges of the court had ordered the formation of a JIT to look into the allegations of the Panama Papers. Afterwards, the JIT carried out an investigation and submitted its report on July 10. After a lengthy discussion the SBC demanded that the premier should step down forthwith in the best interest of democratic polity or else the bar would launch a campaign and observe hunger strikes, take out rallies and boycott court proceedings.
