LAHORE: A resolution was submitted in the Provincial Assembly on Friday calling upon the government to start work on the Purple Line Metro Project. The proposed route runs from Bhatti Gate in Walled City to the Airport. The resolution was submitted by the ruling party lawmaker, Hina Pervaiz Butt. The resolution said that after completion of the Orange Line Metro Train Project, it was imperative that the government started work on the Purple Line.

“Traffic pressure on roads is enhancing day by day and residents of the city are suffering as a result. The Purple Line will help reduce traffic congestion,” he said. The resolution said that the Metro Bus Service was successfully facilitating passengers from Gajju Matta to Shahdara, while Orange Line Metro Train would provide an affordable travel facility between Ali Town and Dera Gujaran.

The resolution urged the opposition parties to avoid playing politics on the issue of public transport. On Friday, a separate resolution was submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Malik Taimur Masood to hang at a public place for three days the culprit involved in the rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab. An adjournment motion was filed by Khadija Umar Farooqi of Pakistan Muslim League-Q against price inflation.
