KARACHI: A cop was shot dead in an act of targeted killing in District Central of Karachi on Friday. Police officials said that armed motorcyclist targeted the victim when he was on his way to the police station.
The incident took place near the Landikotal Chowrangi within the limits of Gulberg police station. Deceased was identified as 37-year-old Shakir Ahmed, son of Shakeel Ahmed. Police officials said that at least two armed men riding a motorcycle targeted and killed the victim.
He was shot once in his head with a closed range and died at the spot. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Extra contingent of the law enforcers also reached the site and collected the evidences. District Central SSP Irfan Baloch said that the culprits who targeted and killed a cop were professional target killers. Deceased was a member of the anti-street crimes force of the District Central and was on his way to Gulberg police station for a duty in his motorcycle when armed motorcyclists targeted and killed him. Deceased cop was a resident of Orangi Town and recruited in the police department in the 2016 on son quota as his father’s death who was also in the police department. Deceased was the eldest among the six siblings and was only a breadwinner of a family. The case has been registered while further investigation was underway.
Home minister Sindh Sohail Anwar Siyal and IGP Sindh Allah Dino Khowaja also took the notice of the incident and sought a report from the police officials concerned over the incident and also ordered to immediate arrest the culprits behind the incident.
Deceased funeral prayers were offered at the Zone Central DIG office which besides a large number of family members and relatives, was also attended by home minister Sindh, IGP Sindh, Additional IG Karachi and other senior police officials.
The home minister at the occasion expressed his sorrow grief to the family of the martyred cop and said that the culprits involved in the killing will be arrested soon, adding that he also announced compensation for the family of the deceased cop.
